Deciding to buy a Newfoundland puppy should be a careful, well-thought out decision. Make sure you don't unwittingly support the cruel practice of puppy farming - the mass breeding of puppies for profit, often with little regard for animal welfare.

It can be very difficult to know if you are buying from a puppy farmer but my advice to you would be do lots of research, anyone can buy a KC (AFFIX)  name and tell you many mistruths about themselves and their dogs. Good breeders some times put their kennels on dog web sites but most would never advertise on these sites(or news papers) as they just put them on so they do not get mistaken for the puppy farmers in their areas. I don't know how much knowledge you have on the breed so don't know if you know all the health questions etc you need to ask if you phone around and all the tests that need to be done to both parents? I would go to a champshow if you can and have a look at the dogs and speak to good breeders or get in contact with either the northern newfoundland club or the newfoundland club as they will always keep you right (This is only my opinion)
